Bethany Lutheran College
There are several colleges to choose from in the state of Minnesota. But not every person can afford to go to the best schools there. Most students do not have the resources needed to go to these schools, resources such as time and finances. Aside from finances, most of the best schools are also exclusive and hard to get into. Luckily, there are also smaller schools that are easier to get into while still providing the same quality education as other schools. Among these schools include Bethany Lutheran College.
Bethany Lutheran College, also known as BLC, is a residential liberal arts college located in Mankato, in the state of Minnesota. The school was established 1927. BLC is a Christian coeducational college that is operated by the Evangelical Lutheran Synod and serves the local community of Mankato. The school’s main campus overlooks the Minnesota River valley.
BLC first opened in 1911 with a little more than 40 students and a faculty of only four. Then in 1927, the Norwegian Synod of the American Evangelical Lutheran Church bought the campus to be used both as a high school and a junior college. The high school was known as the Bethany Lutheran High school and the college as the Bethany Lutheran College. Then in 1946, the church opened the Bethany Lutheran Seminary as a department of the college. Then in 1969, the high school closed, and in 1975, the seminary became a separate institution from the college. In 2001, the school started to give out baccalaureate degrees, completing the 5 year transition from a junior college to a college.
Bethany Lutheran College also offers their Students several opportunities to participate in various activities on campus. These activities include Music and Theatre, Choir, Drama, Intramural Sports and Athletics, and Student Publications and Communications such as the BLC Studios, the Fidelis (the School Yearbook), the Inkwell (a Student literary magazine) and The Scroll (the Campus newspaper).The Vikings are members of the NCAA Division III sporting events. The school competes in: baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball and track and field. The school colors red and white (The sports teams also use Black) and the school nickname are the Vikings.
